[CLOSED] Howdy Hello Hola Hey Ho! @ Grand Indonesia

May 19th, 2014. What a lovely dinner that I had that night. Howdy Hello Hola Hey Ho. Shortened to H5. Located in 5th Floor Grand Indonesia, H5 is quite eye-catching with their shining logo at the facade. I passed through H5 a couple of times, but not really knew what their speciality, so I was a little bit afraid to try it. But good thing, I had chance to try the food. *hooray*

BREWED TEA

Thai Tea 25k

I never ordered Thai Tea in any restaurants. I thought it's the same as Teh Tarik. I don't like Teh Tarik. But, when I ate here, they instantly ordered Thai Tea for me. Well, as a nice foodie, I should try it, right? Tadaaaaaa.. I loved it. Hihihi.. But, still, I was afraid to order Thai Tea in any restaurants. So, I guess,  I will not order Thai Tea in the near future.

Thai tea (also known as Thai iced tea) or "cha-yen" (Thai: ชาเย็น, lit. "cold tea") in Thailand, is a drink made from strongly brewed Ceylon tea. However, due to Ceylon tea's high price, a locally grown landrace (traditional or semi-wild) version of Assam known as Bai Miang (ใบเมี่ยง)[1] with added food coloring is commonly used. Other ingredients may include added orange blossom water, star anise, crushed tamarind seed or red and yellow food coloring, and sometimes other spices as well. This tea is sweetened with sugar and condensed milk and served chilled. Evaporated milk, coconut milk or whole milk is generally poured over the tea and ice before serving to add taste and creamy appearance.

EASY BITES

SON-IN-LAW Eggs 18k

Deep-fried, soft-centered eggs served with tamarind-caramel sauce.

The dish consists 2 half-cooked hard-boiled eggs. It's like Tamago in ramen noodles. But they fried it to give it a little fried texture. Then I asked them to cut it open.. Whoaaaaa.. you could see the yolk melt out beautifully. It tasted very rich. The yolk was perfect!!! My heart was soaring with joy hihihi..

Uncle Ho's Crunchy Wings 32k

Marinated chicken wings, fried and tossed in caramelised fish sauce, crunchy garlic + herbs.

The cute thing about this chicken wings was they presented it differently. The chicken wings was marinated first, then they fried it. After that, they tossed it in fish sauce. Unique, right? Chicken with fish sauce. But, surprisingly, it was well-seasoned. The chicken was juicy and tender, the skin was crispy, must-try starter!!

SINGLE SERVING DISHES

Vietnamese chicken chop rice (Com Tam Chicken) 55k

Aromatic rice served with honey-glazed chicken, house chicken meatloaf, sunny side-up egg, pickles + nuoc cam dressing. Best eaten with a bit of everything in one bite.

Actually, com tam means broken rice in Vietnam. I've already tasted the real com tam. But this menu from H5  didn't use broken rice. They used plain white rice. Well, it's ok for me as long as they are rice. Hahaha.. The honey-glazed chicken was remarkably enticing. The chicken meatloaf  was delicious too. Not too thin, not too thick, just perfect. And of course, the sunny side-up was the best of all. Yup, I always like sunny side-up egg.

Cơm tấm, or broken rice, is a Vietnamese dish made from rice with fractured rice grains. Tấm refers to the broken rice grains, while cơm refers to cooked rice. Also known as Cơm tấm Sài Gòn (Saigon-style broken rice), particularly served in southern Vietnam, in Saigon. It is usually served with grilled pork (either ribs or shredded) plus the Vietnamese dish bì (thinly shredded pork mixed with cooked and thinly shredded pork skin) over broken rice. The rice and meat are served with various greens and pickled vegetables, along with a prawn paste cake, trứng hấp(steamed egg), and grilled prawns. Typically, restaurants will serve this popular combination rice plate with a small bowl of nước chấm, as well as a small bowl of soup broth (canh) with garlic chives (to cleanse the throat). The dish cơm tấm bì comes with a chả trứng egg meatloaf.

Nước chấm is a common name for a variety of Vietnamese "dipping sauces" that are served quite frequently as condiments. It is commonly a sweet, sour, salty and spicy sauce. Nước mắm pha (mixed fish sauce) is the most well known dipping sauce made from fish sauce. Its simplest recipe is some lime juice, or occasionally vinegar, one part fish sauce (nước mắm), one part sugar and two parts water.

Mr. Phat (Beef) 55k

Slow-cooked pulled beef, zesty fresh Asian slaw and sunny side-up egg stacked on a toasted roti - A H5 favourite!

The dish was like a pizza. A toasted roti with shredded beef and shredded slaw, then cover it with sunny side-up. I didn't ask how to eat this. I just crack the egg.. yeah literally crack it.. then let the yolk melted out and slurrrrrp.. I'm in love with the sunny side-up huhuhuhu.. Yup, I'm a gal that fall too easy *LOL* Well, actually I prefer the pork one than the beef one.. *fierce look!!!*

BIGGER BITES

Red Beef Curry 80k

Creamy with a kick of heat - tender cubes of beef, purple + Thai pea eggplant, lychees, basil + crispy lotus root.

I love eggplant!!! So, even though this dish was spicy, I still ate it with passion. It was also unique because it had lychees. So, it was sweet, spicy and tasty. Very rich of flavours. The curry wasn't too strong, that's why I could enjoy it. Oh, I love the beef also. Tender and juicy. And so sorry, I didn't like lotus root huhuhu.. So, I just tried it a little. Just a little. So, have no idea what's the taste hahaha.. sorry!!!

Eggplants come purple, white, lavender, orange, streaked, cylindrical or pear-shaped with flavours ranging from bitter to sweet, giving the cook plenty of options in the kitchen. Thai pea eggplants are an exciting heirloom of exotic old Siam and are round, green and the size of peas with fruit hanging in clusters of 10-15 fruit. They have a wonderful, strong, rich eggplant taste, perfect for stir-frying, relish, pickles, soups and curries. Thai eggplants are quick to grow and give a ‘wow’ factor at a banquet. Watch out when you eat them in a dish that is hot - they can explode when you bite it and be hotter than the rest of the meal.

Crunchy, delicate flavored lotus root is an under-water edible rhizome of lotus plant. Since centuries, the lotus rhizome has held high esteem in oriental regions, especially in Chinese and Japanese cultures. Almost all the parts of the plant: root, young flower stalks, and seeds are being used in the cuisine. Lotus plant is an herbaceous, perennial aquatic plant belonging to Nelumbonaceae family. Scientific name:Nelumbo nucifera.

Crispy Roast Pork Knuckle 199k

Pork knuckle slow-roasted in master stock for juicy flavoursome meat + crispy crackling. Served with a zesty Apple slaw, lettuce wraps + H5 special sauce.

Calling all PORK-lovers!!! Hihihi.. This is recommended. The skin was very crispy, opposite with the juicy meat. Aaaak, I'm drooling right now!!! When they served the pork knuckle, I was already full. So, I couldn't finish it in an instant hahahaha.. Too bad, right? I should eat this first, and ignored the others lalalalala.. They served this pork knuckle with apple slaw, lettuce wraps and special sauce from H5.

A ham hock (or hough) is the joint between the tibia/fibula and the metatarsals of the foot, where the foot was attached to the hog's leg. It is the portion of the leg – also known as pork knuckle – that is neither part of the ham proper nor the foot or ankle, but rather the extreme shank end of the leg bone. Ham hocks are sometimes prepared by smoking.

HAPPY ENDINGS

Asian-Mess 33k

Vanilla ice-cream layered with chunks of coconut cake + meringue, lemon curd, fresh mango slices (seasonal) and salted peanuts.

Do you know what my favourite ingredients here? Meringue!!! So, for me, everything with meringue, delicious. Period. Hahaha.. But tell you the truth, this one was so delish. You will feel the delicate of the ice cream, with a little crunchy from the chunks, meringue and salted peanuts. The lemon curd added the exotic flavour. Tasted adorable.

Lemon Curd is a thick, soft and velvety cream that has a wonderful tart yet sweet citrus flavor.

Avogato 35k

A twist on the good of favourite 'avocado juice' - Creamy avocado pannacotta served with dark chocolate shards + hot espresso coffee.

This was another version of Affogato, I think hahaha. A creamy avocado mixed with hot espresso coffee and top with dark chocolate shards. It looked so gorgeous. So sorry that I couldn't finish it. I can't drink coffee and I never like avocado. So, yeah, I let Ellyna finished it :D

An affogato (Italian, "drowned") is a coffee-based beverage. It usually takes the form of a scoop of vanilla gelato or ice cream topped with a shot of hot espresso. Some variations also include a shot of Amaretto or other liqueur.
