[CLOSED] monViet Lippo Mall Kemang Jakarta

March 11th, 2014. I met Hai and Loan at monViet for the umpteenth time. They both are so nice. I love that I could meet them and talk to them again. It's been some time after the last time I went there. When I came, Hai was busy with someone else. I think they're in the middle of some meetings. So Hai left me with the menu. I was very hungry, so I ordered their Cha Gio Re first hahaha..

Cha Gio Re 36k

Vietnamese crispy springrolls with shrimps. This is always my favourite. The taste and the texture of this springrolls were fantastic. You will be stunned with the taste. And it had a light, thin, smooth crispy texture that flakes when you bite into them.

A Vietnamese spring roll is different from a Chinese spring roll in that it is typically smaller and contains ground or chopped meats/seafood such as pork, crab, shrimp, chicken, taro or cassava, glass noodle, wood-ear fungi or oyster mushrooms and shredded carrots. Rice papers are always used as the wrappers in Vietnam. A few Vietnamese restaurants in western countries may use the Chinese spring roll wrappers due to the inavailability of rice papers initially.

monViet was launching new menu. Broken rice menu. How to make Broken Rice? First thing first. it started with selecting the freshly harvested quality rice grains. Then use the interesting Viatnemese bamboo shift to sort the small grains from big grains. Shift, shift, and shift until they got what they want. Broken Rice is a Vietnamese dish made from rice with fractured rice grains.

Broken rice with grilled Australian beef slices, chicken meatloaf, bì (thinly sliced beef and chicken skin). The broken rice tasted delicious, but I wasn't familiar with the texture. It was nuttier than original rice. The beef slices were succulent. It was juicy, moist, tender, lush, and luscious. Hahaha. I thought it would be chewy and dry and not all of the above..  I was wrong :)

The broken rice is a traditionally cheaper grade of rice produced by damage in milling. It is mainly used as a food industry ingredient in America and Europe, but in West Africa and South East Asia is used for human consumption. Broken rice has a lower fiber and nutrient content, but generally has a similar energy content to intact rice.

Broken rice with grilled chicken, chicken meatloaf, bì (thinly sliced beef and chicken skin). This was the one I order because I prefer chicken than beef. Well, even though the beef was delightful, I wasn't sorry that I ordered the chicken one. The chicken was palatable. Somewhere between delicious and mouth-watering. The sweet flavour from the skin was always my favourite while munching a grilled chicken hehehe..

Hai introduced another new menu, called Pho Roll. "What makes Pho Roll different from other rolls that we have on the menu is it wraps lots of fresh vegetables and herbs. which makes it fresh and healthy. Not so many foreigners understand that the word Pho in Vietnamese language it means the soft smooth, fine quality kway teow that the Vietnamese use for Pho (beef noodle soup food). As the food becomes so popular and the name is so easy to call and remember that people tent to call Pho to address the beef noodle soup," says Hai.

There are 3 different kind of filling that they use for Pho Roll:

Lemongrass Grilled Beef Pho Roll

This pho roll was very crumbly when you eat it. The grilled beef was juicy just like in my imagination. Tender and fragrant with a little bit smoky flavour. Dip it into the sauce. And you will craving for more.

Lemongrass Grilled Chicken Pho Roll

The difference between this one and the previous one, only the meat. This one was lemongrass grilled chicken. Lemongrass chicken is a famous dish throughout Vietnam. Savour the appetizing aroma from the lemongrass, you won't notice any other menu. Moist and fragrant, definitely going to be your favourite.

Vegetarian Pho Roll

For those who don't eat meat, there will always be a vegetarian menu. So does this pho roll. monViet served a vegetarian pho roll. No meat in the roll. Just vegetables. But they used fresh vegetables with flavourful herbs. So, it's as delicious and as crunchy and as juicy as the other two :)
